Barranco León
Paleoartistic reconstruction of a riparian environment under arid conditions during a stadial phase of the Early Pleistocene in OAZ, such as inferred from the paleoecological record of VM1 around 1.6 Ma. A greater proliferation of trees is observed in areas influenced by the water table. There are also pines and oaks alongside the arboreal strata that make up the gallery forest. The locally abundant Ephedra is depicted in rocky areas and substrates with marl and gypsum. Halophytic communities are largely in the lower part of the drawing. Artemisia abounds in the rocky, treeless slopes.
